ARTISTIC TRAINING AND ACHIEVEMENTS PRIOR TO BIRTH OF FIRST CHILD:
I always wanted to be an opera singer, but growing up in a single parent, council house where food was often scarce, training was completely out of reach. Despite this, I began singing professionally at 14. I worked consistently in a 'classical' capacity until 2018 when I was finally able to fund my own training. I've sung in arenas & and stadiums, for royalty & been on the west end. Last season was my first & I debuted for the ENO, in the chorus, covering & singing Queen of the night for their outreach work & the same role for the Royal Opera Houses come and create programme.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO TAKE PART IN THE SWAP'RA RETREAT?
I've never had access to formal college training or the opportunity to make the kind of connections one gets there. I have an excellent teacher and coach but they can only do so much. I feel the retreat could help me fill in the gaps in my education and give me the opportunity to further my career in a positive and supported way
DESCRIBE YOUR PRESENT LIFE AS AN ARTIST AND PLANS FOR THE FUTURE:
I am lucky enough to have built a successful classical career and I regularly give private and corporate concerts which have enabled me to fund my operatic training. I have now worked for both the English national and Royal Opera Houses and I hope to continue working in a largely operatic capacity. I have applied to many programs and for auditions but I find myself trapped between a rock and a hard place because I have an abundance of experience but not nearly enough in operatic repertoire. This means it can be tricky to know where to put an artist like me. I feel that when I am heard by companies they always respond positively but getting through the door with no college on your CV is very difficult. I have several concerts planned next year as well as a couple of festivals
