Laura Coppinger enjoys singing a variety of repertoire from 16th century lute song, opera, and contemporary song which she frequently performs in recital. Song forms the heart of Laura's artistic identity, particularly English as she loves the expressive potential and connection with her mother tongue; she came second in the 2024 John Kerr Award, with a programme spanning Thomas Campion to Oliver Knussen. In 2022 she was a finalist in the Elgar/Spedding Memorial Lieder Competition and achieved 2nd place in the Charles Wood International Song Competition, winning the Charles Wood Song Prize. She is a 2025 Brighton Early Music Festival Young Artist, and has recorded lute songs for Dean Castle. A keen recitalist, she was a 2024 Leeds Lieder Young Artist, and has given recitals at Broadway Arts Festival, Ludlow Assembly Rooms, Jacqueline du Pré Music Building and various venues across Oxford, Glasgow and London. With a passion for C20 and C21 song, she also enjoys workshopping new compositions, including at the University of Oxford and the Purcell School. Laura completed an MMus degree in vocal performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2023, where she held a scholarship and studied with Wilma MacDougall.
