SINGER BIOGRAPHY:

Elizabeth Nurse (mezzo-soprano) is a British musician who enjoys a variety of musical ventures. Storytelling in music is at the heart of her creative practice, and she enjoys collaborations with pianists Tom Jesty, Nate Sassoon, and Kaitlyn Bennett. Elizabeth was a finalist in The Leach Award for Singing Competition 2024 and sings regularly as a soloist. In Oratorio she has performed as a soloist in works including Handel’s Messiah, Caldara Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo and Mendelssohn Elijah. Operatic roles include Mayor’s Wife in Janacek Jenufa and Female Chorus in Britten‘s The Rape of Lucretia. An experienced choral and consort singer, she has sung with ensembles including La Cetra Basel, The Marian Consort, Christ Church Cathedral Choir (as the first female Lay Clerk appointed), and the Sinfonia of London Chorus. She was a VOCES8 Scholar 2021-22 and is a Monteverdi Choir Apprentice 2025-26. Elizabeth studied Early Music Performance at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Switzerland, and holds a Masters in Musicology from the University of Oxford. She currently researches performance practice in the 18th and 19th centuries, also plays baroque and modern violin, and is committed to inspiring the next generation through music education projects.
