Eva Stone-Barney is a Canadian mezzo-soprano, currently pursuing her Masters in Vocal Studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studies with John Evans. She holds degrees in vocal performance and musicology from McGill University and the University of Toronto, where her SSHRC-funded thesis explored innovation in classical vocal recital. Recent performance highlights include singing in the chorus of Handel's Giustino (Royal Ballet and Opera), Marcellina in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Goodenough College), as Medusa in the world-premiere of Goi Chern and Jess McNulty's opera of the same name (Vertebrae Theatre), and as New Ofglen in Poul Rouders’ The Handmaid’s Tale (Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity). She has also appeared in scenes from Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Dorabella from Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte (Glass Light Theatre), Nancy from Britten’s Albert Herring, and Ramiro from Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera (Guildhall School). Passionate about art song and recital programming, Eva has recently performed Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures with her duo partner, Daisie Sitlani, at London’s Leighton House, and has participated in song projects at Guildhall led by pianists Iain Burnside and Bretton Brown. She has performed major choral works with professional ensembles across Canada, and twice represented Quebec in the National Youth Choir. She was the 2024–2025 Jackman Scholar (LGAC) and was named a 2021 RBC Emerging Artist Fellow by the Association for Opera in Canada. Beyond performance, Eva is an active music scholar and writer.
