She studied voice at Trinity College, London – winning the Wilfred Greenhouse Allt Prize and Paul Simm Opera Prize – and at the Wales International Academy of Voice in Cardiff; and flute at Magdalen College, Oxford – as the first female Instrumental Scholar in the college’s c.550-year history. Winning the Trinity English Song Competition with duo partner Pete Foggitt's own compositions, Susanna went on become a Park Lane Group Young Artist with pianist Matthew Schellhorn, performing at the Purcell Room in a masterclass with Jane Manning and Judith Weir, and at the Wigmore Hall with Joseph Horovitz, culminating in an album of Horovitz's complete vocal works. Susanna also commissioned and premiered works from Colin Riley, Toby Young, Russell Hepplewhite and Litha and Effy Efthymiou. As well as significant appearances on the concert platform (Verdi’s Requiem, Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony), on the operatic stage, Susanna’s roles include Mozart heroines, sorceresses in Handel operas, and experimental roles with puppets and aerial acrobatics with companies including the Royal Opera House, Opera North, Longborough, English Touring Opera, Irish National Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin.
