SINGER BIOGRAPHY:
British-Irish-Turkish high soprano Nazan Fikret is “a silver-toned soprano whose growing reputation is built on the unaffected beauty of her voice and the intelligence with which she deploys it.” (Mark Valencia, Opera). Trained at the GSMD, she was Winner of the English Song Prize and Susan Longfield Award. She is former Britten-Pears Young Artist, Making Music AYCA Winner and two- times recipient of an International Opera Awards Bursary. Equally at home in Opera and Song, alongside duo partner Rebecca Cohen, Nazan was a finalist in the Das lied International Song Competition and has performed on BBC Radio 3 "In tune" for International Women's day, showcasing Ella Jarman-Pinto's works. She has garnered critical acclaim across major international opera houses and festivals, as well as establishing herself in concert and song platforms, and as a passionate educator and advocate for arts in the community. Nazan has been a principal for opera houses such as Royal Ballet and Opera, English National Opera, Teatro Real, Glyndebourne, Welsh National Opera and Nederlandse Reisopera. Recent engagements include company debuts for Opera North and Opera Poznań, in her signature role as Mozart’s Queen of the Night. To conclude the season, she makes her Buxton International Festival debut as Madame Herz The Impresario. In 23/24 she debuted Anne Trulove Stravinsky The Rake’s Progress and Clorinda Rossini Cenerentola, for English Touring Opera; Suor Genovieffe Puccini Suor Angelica for West Green House Opera. Notable baroque debuts include Teofane Handel Ottone for English Touring Opera, and Aristea Pergolesi L’Olimpiade for Vache Baroque.
