SINGER BIOGRAPHY:
Maya Kumana, 20, currently studies under professor Janis Kelly at the Royal College of Music. She won the Junior Vocal Prize at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2023. Maya debuted as Lucy in Menotti’s “The Telephone” at the Waltham Abbey Festival of Song in 2022. She has chorally performed at Clare’s College Cambridge, Southwark Cathedral, and Coventry Cathedral - where she was recorded for BBC Radio 3. Recent choral engagements include being a newly appointed scholar for the Christopher Wood Choral foundation at St Mary le Strand. Maya has participated in masterclasses with Sarah Fox, Marilyn Rees and Brenda Hurley along with having contributed to the operatic libretto “Witch” for the Royal Academy of Music. She has performed with the RCM chorus under Sir Andrew Davis and the Madame Butterfly chorus with the London City Philharmonic
orchestra. She was chosen to represent the RCM as a semi-finalist for the Junior Ferrier competition in 2024 and was selected as a finalist for the Luxon-Amit Bursary competition in Folkstone.
